Hi Leslie,
Thank you so much for your card as it caught me off guard and by
surprise. Its people like you that we raise our hands and sacrifice our time
away from family and friends to deploy so we can protect our nation. Even
though we can always email, it’s nice to receive an actual letter.
Hi Leslie Stuff have changed in the last few days as now the last group will be departing back to the states sooner than it was previously mentioned, Thanks once again for all your great support during our deployment in Afghanistan, now we are getting close to be reunited with our love ones.
When someone says the word hero, I’m sure like most people several instantly come to mind. Batman, Superman, ect. Just to name a few.
But, there are many different things that define the word hero, and most of them come in the most unassuming of forms.
My husband is by all accounts an ordinary guy. He likes most guy things and trust me when I say he even has all the annoying guy traits we so adore.
He works insanely hard and far from home so that he can provide for his family, A family that includes all the chaos of an ADHD child, and a fully disabled spouse. But he never once bats an eye, never once thinks of himself and will go without to provide what is needed.
Now I know what you’re thinking, what in mercy does this have to do with a world without heroes? What most people do not know when they first meet my husband is that he is a veteran. He, like so many others stood up when our nation called ready to do whatever was asked of him, including give his life so that we could live our lives free and in peace.
So, today as you look around and honor our veterans- who now have traded camo to be your police officers, fire fighters, garbage men, and many others, remember that even though they will never ask for it, they are heroes to all of us.
I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t imagine my world without mine.
Leslie,
I’d like to say thank you for supporting the Troops. It takes a special person to take time out of their day to send a care package, write a letter to a complete stranger. This is my 6th deployment out here and every time I come out here I like meeting new people who cares.
